There have been various rumours about the future of the Harrietsham Almshouses since the announcement that they will be transferred from The Fishmongers to Bristol Charities, with a view to be sold. The Parish Council has met with David Jones, from Bristol Charities, to explore the possibility of finding a site within Harrietsham to build a modern Almshouses unit for the community. Following the building of this unit, the existing residents will be relocated and the old Almshouses then sold. The character of the old Almshouses are protected as a listed building and are noted as a historical building of Kent.
There are currently 3 vacant properties, and it has been agreed by the Fishmongers that these can be let to individuals within the community who fulfil the eligibility criteria. The Parish Council will continue to work with both Bristol Charities and the Charity Commission to maintain the Almshouses provision for the residents of Harrietsham.
