programme of byways for consideration
NUMBER BOAT PARISH PROBLEM OUTLINE
1. AE25 Chilham Heavily
used byway which we will surface next year but has greater concerns and
letters, meetings etc about use by motorbikes in particular including
excessive speed and trespass from the byway onto neighbouring land and
NDW AE35 (TROed) and Forestry Commission Land at Kings Wood.
2. AE52/AE73/AE74/ AE101/AE103 Wye and Crundale
Condition is not the real issue here except in parts and AE101 in particular.
This will be tackled this/next year. Numerous complaints about poor behaviour
by motorists, noise and excessive speeds. Vehicular use of the network
in this area of the Kent Downs AONB considered incompatible with use and
enjoyment.
3. KH152,KH220, AW346,AW51 Lenham , Charing,
Harrietsham Concerns expressed about damage to route, Inconsiderate vehicular
use, trespass onto adjacent land. View expressed by local community that
vehicular use is incompatible with quiet use and enjoyment of the national
trail.Extensive repairs in 2004/5. Follow up work and remaining rough
patches to be repaired Autumn 2006.
4. MR226 Wrotham Concerns expressed about
damage to route, Inconsiderate vehicular use, trespass onto adjacent land.
View expressed by local community that vehicular use is incompatible with
quiet use and enjoyment of the national trail.Longstanding issue.
5. MR190 Trottiscliffe High levels of recreational
vehicular use, considered to be incompatible with quiet use and enjoyment
of the national trail.
6. MR181 Trottiscliffe Erosion problems and
the route is considered unsuitable for vehicular use.
7. AW183AW339,AW340,AW341,AE571 Shadoxhurst
Although surfaced and some forms of fly tipping control in place, we get
an awful lot of complaints about excessive use, illegal use, excessive
speed, fly tipping and general trespass and abuse. AW340 repairs starting
17th July 2006.
8. ER185ER25 Alkham Vehicular damage to surface
, trespass by equestrian and vehicular users onto adjacent land.
9. MR412 Ightham Concerns expressed about
vehicular use, nuisance and noise. SSI and scheduled ancient monument.
10. KH645Drakes Lane WormshillHarrietsham Severe
damage to route, trespass onto adjacent land and nuisance
11. AW178/KH632 Egerton/Boughton Malherbe
Severe damage to route, trespass onto adjacent land and nuisance. Completely
reconditioned and completed July 2006. TRO in place until December 2006
in order for it to settle.
12. HE228 Postling Damaged in some sections
13. TB20A Broadstairs Cul-
de- sac route which continues as footpath status. Used as a rat run.
14. CB202. Adisham Currently in good order
following repair but may be vulnerable to further damage
15. AW346/AW347/AW353/AW357 Charing/Hothfield
Rutting, vehicular damage to soft areas plus farm vehicular use. One route
particularly narrow.
16. AT27 Biddenden Heavy rutting by vehicles
to wet areas.
17. AT60/AT64 Rolvenden Deep ruts to centre,
vehicular damage to wet areas. Now repaired.
18. AT182 Woodchurch Large depressions at
Shadoxhurst end, depressions and erosion to wet areas.
19. AT254 High Halden Central section heavy
clay, unsurfaced and vulnerable to vehicular damage during wet weather
and during winter.
20. AE158 Brook Low level vehicular damage
to central section.
21. AE563/AE566 Ruckinge Deterioration to
unsurfaced areas during winter months and wet weather.AE566 repairs due
to begin 24th July 2006.
22. AB62 Tenterden Rutted at eastern end
where the surface is particularly saturated.
23. AW288 Bethersden Heavy clay, Heavy rutting
and bomb holes
24. KH164/KH167/KH212/ KH219/ KH221/ KH223 Hollingbourne
and Lenham Erosion of scarp paths , particularly gully to centre
of path. Level routes prone to vehicular damage during wet weather with
slippery cross slopes where on chalk.
25. KH94 Bredhurst Ruts and cross slope developing.
26. KM194 Yalding Poor drainage/geology.
Wet year round with liquid mud.
27. KM474 Otterden Wet areas some rutting
28. KH645 Wormshill Heavy rutting to wet
areas
29. MR45A Birling Poorly drained wet areas
in centre vulnerable to vehicular damage
30. MR181/NS290 Trottiscliffe/Luddesdown
Water laying in some areas with erosion to centre of path on steep southern
section.
31. MR362 West Peckham Surfaced both ends,
centre section heavily saturated and subject to severe damage by vehicles
when used.
32. NS195 Cobham Vulnerable to vehicular
damage during winter months.
33. NS284 Meopham Heavily used access to
houses in the Culverstone Valley. Suitable standard for public use but
falls short of residents expectations.
34. NS285 Meopham Central section rutted
and damage following enclosure of the cross field section to prevent trespass
onto adjacent farm land.
35. HE282 Saltwood Heavily rutted.
36. HE365 Elmstead Very narrow, damage to
surface attributed to vehicular use.
37. ZR97 Iwade Cul-de-sac Byway across nature
reserve with various national and international conservation designations.
Reserve adjacent to byway is abused
38. ZR95 Iwade Cul de sac Byway (60m missing
link to UC road). Serious issues either end of route with landowners.
Should not attend without police escort.
39. ZU3 Tonge Cul de sac byway - haven for
burnt out car enthusiasts and access to seawall
Routes included in rows numbered 1 -12 are those
currently under consideration.
Rows 13 -39 list all of those
routes identified within the Byways database has having some form of issue
relating to maintenance or vehicular use. They are not arranged in any
priority order.
Where practical routes have been combined
on the basis of close proximity or because similar issues have been raised.
